Bakgrund

Ostrobothnia Jazz Sextett (OJS – Sextet)
består av medlemmar som bor eller kommer från Österbotten i Finland. Österbotten har länge haft en lång och imponerande historia av duktiga musiker som gjort både nationell samt internationell karriär som musiker, tonsättare eller dirigenter. OJS – Sextet spelar företrädes vis musik av den argentinske tonsättaren och musikern Astor Piazzolla, tango nuevo, som rör sig i gränslandet mellan jazz och tango. OJS – Sextet har tagit tillfället att ta ut svängarna i sina arrangemang i den klassiska jazzsextett sättningen på saxofon, trumpet, trombon, piano, kontrabas och trummor. Sextetten har gjort ett flertal spelningar i Finland på både jazzklubbar och festivaler och presenterar här sin första CD-produktion ”Hotel Astor”.

Ostrobothnia Jazz Sextet
was founded in 2013 by a few experienced professional musicians who have mainly worked in jazz music. They are a traditional jazz sextet with roots in classic 1960s style. The group has previously released the album Hotel Astor (2017) featuring music by the Argentine composer and musician Astor Piazzolla. The members of Ostrobothnia Jazz Sextet all come from the coastal areas of Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia or are active in the region. For this album ”De bergtagna”,inspiration and material has been taken from folk tradition, with a special focus on music related to the archipelago and the sea. A folk music tradition consisting of everything from medieval ballads to younger folk songs and fiddle tunes. The material that formed the basis for the musical arrangements comes from the archive collections of the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland. The archive recordings that can be heard in some of the album’s songs also come from SLS archives.
